The Children's Ministry at Unity

Dedicated to Children, Our Most Precious Resource!

Welcome!

Your children will begin their experience at Unity of San Luis Obispo by joining you in the sanctuary for joy singing and a time of sharing by our minister. Then our Sunday School teachers will escort them to the classrooms for their spiritual curriculum.

Sunday School Classes

Why Sunday School? Why do we prefer that children not attend services in the sanctuary?

Our sanctuary services are devotional and educational experiences for adults. For this reason, we provide a Sunday School that is designed to meet the spiritual, psychological, physical, and emotional needs of children at every age level. Here, they can be comfortable with themselves, their peers, and their teachers. We want our children to gain a greater awareness of the presence of God within them, and not be pushed away from spiritual ideas by exposure to a religious environment that is not conducive to their age level.

Our Curriculum

Our Youth Education Director, Dixie Ridge, and the teachers of the Children's Ministry at Unity of San Luis Obispo provide a loving and nurturing environment for your children to begin their spiritual growth in life. A well-rounded spiritual curriculum is provided for each child's age and level of understanding. Each Sunday lesson is lovingly designed to be age-appropriate. Children are encouraged to develop the positive aspects of their personalities and, at the same time, learn to identify and eliminate negative, self-defeating attitudes and behaviors.

Volunteers

Our dynamic Sunday School teaching staff is made up of very dedicated Unity members who have a love of children and teaching. We are always in need of teachers and classroom assistants who can help to touch the lives of our youth.

Time commitment: Once a month on Sunday mornings, all age groups. Please contact our youth education director, Dixie Ridge, at dridge@stmjappraisers.com.

Uniteens

The Uniteen group is comprised of young people of middle school age who are building a strong foundation of beliefs and activities that will enhance their self-esteem and enable them to make a positive difference in their community. The Uniteen sponsors are dedicated adults who are nurturing independence in our young people and supporting their growth as healthy and secure individuals.

Y.O.U. (Youth of Unity)

The Y.O.U. involves students of high school age (14 - 18). Sponsors encourage our young people to govern themselves, participate with other Y.O.U. groups, both locally and internationally, and engage in fundraising and service projects that make a difference in the community. The Y.O.U. activities include Weekend Rallies and International Conferences at Unity Village that both educate and inspire them to act in accordance with their highest values while letting their Light shine.
